In the museum’s courtyard, you can take a closer look not only at the surrounding urban landscape, but also at the architecture of the museum building. Here, you can also sit down for a snack or observe life in the courtyard.

Nestled in a serene, natural setting near one of Turku’s beautiful parks, the Biological Museum invites you to connect with the wonders of urban nature. In the museum’s courtyard, you can immerse yourself in the vibrant urban landscape by observing the life teeming in this unique outdoor space. Explore engaging exhibits and discover the fascinating diversity of urban wildlife through informative panels. Learn about everything from tiny soil bugs and stately courtyard trees to the birds that find shelter among their branches. The courtyard is a hub of activity and fun! Take part in interactive challenges like leapfrog races against other “urban animals,” or dive into the intricate world of insect hotels. With a little luck, you might uncover an isopod or a centipede hiding beneath a log!

A path around the charming museum building gives you an insight into its distinctive architecture and an idea of what the city looked like in the early 20th century, when the museum was established in the north-east corner of the park. You can also take a moment to sit down at a table in the courtyard for a snack or to observe life in the courtyard. Resting in the lush park, it’s hard to believe that the city centre is just a stone’s throw away! The road leading to the museum’s courtyard provides direct access to the Urheilupuisto park, an important biodiversity hotspot for many wildlife species. Opposite the museum is also the Samppalinna park, which invites you to swim and enjoy yourself in the summer.
